Slieve Binnian…with the Wee Binnians!
Posted by Glenn
A few of us made it to County Down, last Saturday (13th Sept), to take part in the Grade 1 walk of the Wee Binnians annual Walking Festival.
As you can see, we had fantastic weather. We started at Carricklittle carpark…climbing Slieve Binnian, Slieve Lamagan, Cove & Beg, continuing on to the Brandy Pad, through the Donard Saddle, and down along the Glen River, into Newcastle.
The craic was great, and they set a tight pace…great training for Kili!
- Spot the ironing board!
I never cease to be amazed at some of the sights that greet us, when we are out walking…check out the guy in fancy dress! He was heading up to the top of Commedagh, to play a game of rugby with his mates! (looking for dragons to slay, on the way)
These photographs hardly do justice to the fantastic scenery in the Mourne Mountains, it really is worth a visit…so, get on those walking boots, and get out there!

Got something to say?

Hi, A very good read and good luck Kili. Just to let you know that Roger Connolly’s annual Brave Heart walk from Newcastle to Rostrevor will take place on Sunday 14th Dec 2008. This is a gruelling walk with proceeds going to the NI Children’s Hospice in Belfast. It starts in Donard Carpark at 5.00am and it takes in all the peaks en route and they hope to reach Rostrevor by 4.00pm. So give them your support by being available to greet them at the pub when they finish. Click on the logo pictured right for more info on Roger’s charity. The Total raised for last year’s Braveheart Walk was £3,500. As you know they wear kilts on this walk so to the authenticity of our bravehearts attire, I am assured that thermals are not part of the outfit !!!.
Thanks, and welcome, David!
I have heard of the Braveheart Challenge! It does sound pretty tough now…are you taking part?
No I won’t be doing the Braveheart walk but I will be there to support Roger and his team. I forgot to say in my last comment a big thank you for coming to the Wee Binnian Walking Festival last September. Very good photos. Could I use one or two of them for our website?
I have been on a few Wee Binnian walks, and they are always memorable!
I will look out some other photos, that might be of interest to you.
Thanks for your comments.
I would be greatful if you would send me details of your walking festival for 2009.
Regards
Paula
