Knocklayde, with a twist?

Posted by Glenn

At the end of this previous post, I revealed how I thought Irwin was planning a severe departure from normality, on our next walk on Knocklayde. If you remember, I said how I thought he was hinting at a “figure of eight” approach. Possibly climbing it twice?

Well, I’m afraid I was “barking up the wrong tree”, Irwin had planned a slight twist, but nothing like climbing it twice. I must admit, I was a bit relieved, and glad that we were getting back home for mid-day. It was a nice surprise to be able to spend some time with Jed, at the park.

The twist was simply approaching from a different side. We usually park in Ballycastle, and walk directly to Knocklayde through the Ballycastle Forest, but this time we walked through the town, out to near the sea, and along for a few miles, before turning inland more, and heading towards the hill. It was a great walk, nice change of scenery and we were blessed with brilliant weather.

I only got two photos, that I feel for one reason or another that they are worthy of posting here.

The first is a view from the east side of Knocklayde, and the second is Jeds’ water bottle, at the very summit! He very kindly allowed me to use it, as it is a good size to carry in a pocket.

very good! at least the water bottle wasn’t bob the builder or thomas the tank or i think just maybe people wud ave been talking about you! lol!

class scenery but the first picture does show that you must have been in the middle of no where! how on earth do you know what way to head?

I wouldn’t have cared if it was a Bob the Builder bottle…if you had seen Jed’s wee face when he realized that his bottle had been at the top of a mountain…. it was worth it!

That first picture is actually surprisingly close to Ballycastle…well, about two miles from the Marine Hotel, if you know where that is? I do know what you mean though, I think it shows off our lovely countryside, and farmland really well!

What do you think of the new way of linking photos…having to click on them, but then seeing it a bit bigger. do you like this way, or the old way? I’ll maybe experiment with both ways for a while.

i liked it the other way but i now would prefer it this way (as in the smaller pictures to click on) then u can actually see the picture better!

and of course i no where the marine hotel is! 2miles is an awful long way away - well to me it is! you would need to be motivated to walk those walks you go on a Sat. maybe me and geraldine should take up the walking…hehe!! only joking!

    Hi Glenn and Geraldine,

I read your blog with tears. The pictures of your beautiful daughter bring back so many memories. My daughter has trisomy 21 (Down’s). She was also very ill after the birth and required phototherapy and transfusions. At 3 mths old she was mismanaged by our local hospital and after a series of horrific errors, ended up in RBSC on life support. At six months she was stable enough to go through major cardiac surgery although the incident at three mths has left her with extensive brain damage. These special children teach us so much.

I wish you all the best in your fund raising. I ebay from time to time and mail out mobile phone recycling envelopes which haven’t been a great success but it depends on how wide a circle of friend s you have I guess. If you want, I can give you details of the company. They support charities and help the centre in England where we take our daughter (now six) for therapy.

Thanks for stopping by to say hello too.

    Will check back in soon,

    Deb x

“God is good, all of the time” is right…we have some precious memories, and we have been able to prove God’s help, in every situation.
I have the privilege of helping out at a children’s meeting tomorrow night at my church, and am teaching them a Bible verse tomorrow night, this verse is so appropriate for us all.

“Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.” I Peter 5v7.

I would be interested in some info about the recycling envelopes…what way does that work?

Thanks for commenting, we enjoyed your site too. Found it through the message on armenthomassian.com. Are you aware that he is traveling around Australia at the minute, and his internet access is patchy, so he may take a few days to answer, but I am sure he will (when he can)

Geraldine enjoyed reading your profile…you two have so much in common! Art, photography, and Little House on the Prairie to name a few LOL!

I like the photo of Jed’s water bottle. It’s very artistic. It was very kind of him to let you borrow it
